THE PROBLEM WITH PORN FILMS (IS THERE ONE)?

A lot of people seem to be upset that the Naughty Machinima site has a lot of activity on it. And that some great films are being "overrun" by not so great films.

This is an old argument.

So I'm going to take a little bit of an opposite approach than most of my friends. To me Naughty Machinima should be a place to go to UPLOAD movies. That's sort of it.

It's really up to us to create the community we want to create.

The problem isn't too many films. Enthusiasm is a good thing.
I know I was terrible when I first started. Some of these people will surprise you later, I promise.

The real problem is that most of us have stopped blogging other people's great films like we used to. And I am the most guilty of all!!!

It takes time to do the screen shots. And there just are a lot more of great films than there used to be.

People talk about a Golden Time in our Pornstars group, like everything we did was special. That's not true.

When I started Kathrein Henhouse and Ruff Brocco were the only two making films.

Eventually the Aurora's, the Deelites, the Serenity's, the Scooby's, the Rayven's, Hard Rusts, Thorgals and the Pixie Rains all came along and raised the level of filmmaking. So instead of two great filmmakers, now we had about a dozen people who could make interesting films.

Today, we are in an even more amazing time!!!!

Second Life is changing and letting us do things we never thought possible, with great new viewers and now Mesh is coming. There are also great new technical changes to how we edit and capture the films.

And now there's a new generation of amazing filmmakers, who are coming along. While most of the same directors of the good directors from the past are still creating. But on top of those greats, we've added AMAZING new talent. Our film world would be not nearly as exciting without the amazing Rysan Fall, Quinn Ying or Natalia Xenga. Not to mention filmmakers like Bert Jedenburgh, Aleah or HaileyMarie Redrose.

So if you like a film, help it to stand out. Blog it. Put out a notecard telling people this is your pic of the month. Find offbeat films that nobody loves and adopt these little orphans as your own. Point out directors you think we aren't paying enough attention to. That's part of the reason we are inviting others to join this blog. To help us point out who the next Deelites and Serenity's are.

So please...Don't worry about how many films any one makes. Just keep pointing out the good ones.

And we will make the community we want to make.

  1. Thank you Ema for putting me in that number :) I agree there have been an explosion in the number of movies, and in their quality, so I don't see the problem. My point is: What pushes us to make better movies? I started to work on them after seeing "A beautiful stranger", Its apparent simplicity and the joy that shines from every single frame of it still inspires and shapes each of my movies. And after that every director that has been able to trasmit true love for his viewers and the joy coming from making films.
Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and nice comments, thats in the very end what keeps me going on :)

  2. Hi Emanuelle,
I agree wiht all that you wrote. I saw the golden time. I saw several good directors working. You wroute about Kathrein and Ruff. Did you remember Lupus and Pasquale Foden? I'm remembered the long process for them created a movie. I'm not telling that today dont exist good directors, because isn't true. There are good directors today ... I hope to see more good movies too.

    Sorry for my poor english.
    Kisses

  3. Well said! I think the biggest issue with the "community" or lack thereof right now is that too many people are more concerned with tearing others down, rather than celebrating accomplishments.

Everyone has their own tastes, so what one person may hate may push someone else's buttons just right. Who is anyone to say which is right or wrong?

  4. Thankyou Ema..for mentioning me along with some people i really admire. You make excellent points too. :) xx

I myself have been guilty of thinking in black and white on this subject. It would be a shame to do anything which hampered newcomers, or stopped them experimenting and getting feed back to get where they are going.

Thinking in shades of grey means things like the new advancements may mean more experiments released by some producers. The 3D movies we've produced are purely sex scenes with no real plot or story for example. I am testing, and enjoying the feed back. They are certainly not well rounded movie projects yet.

Some people like to spend months on a movie, as with Sultrina, others like to show us every step they make along the way.

NM does provide embed codes, and we all have the capability to showcase, or throw a spotlight on our favourite movies. I know we'll keep on trying our best here.

  5. Thank you for this! I agree completely with Ainsley, and think that its only when we respect the creativity of others that we can grow collectively.

I think this post is awesome- thanks to you for recognizing where we are and where we can be.

  7. Yes, I do remember them Miss Balogh. But Ruff and Kathrein came well before them. I think Pasquale and Lupus started around the same time as Aurora and Dee and our old friend Roberto Highfield. Writing down names always means you leave someone out. I appreciate you bringing them up in comments. I hope others do the same.

  8. Well done Ema my love !! You are an amazing and tallented woman and you prove this again and again with your love for the Adult Film Industry!
Just remember pornies...if it was not for the sex industry, we would all be chatting in text in the "Compuserve XH2246" Chatroom on our Commodore 64s. And YOU....are all a part of this by being here and doing what you do. You are the people who drive the technology, you are riding the bleeding edge of film making with moving digital images that rival those created by Pixar and Lucas. You all make this better in your own way. Don't stop doing what you love -- push yourself to make better films that blow our collective socks off!! Be Brave!

  9. Hi Emma:
You made a very good point here. In any society, the explosion of creativity is good and we think all the new producers have the opportunity to grow.Countries like the US are great becuse they let creativity explode. The restriction of creativity is bad in any human situation. Let more film makers come along!
BTW you forgot to mention me hehe.

  11. I can't even fathom how many times I've said "I've GOT to do a Top 10 list of my favorite SL porn films!!" and never got around to it, so I'm equally as guilty here.

It's definitely true that the word "community" is usually taken to mean "a bunch of people all doing the same thing." But really, "community" should be "inspiring, helping one another, and raving about other people's work." I think one reason I didn't do this before was because there were already Blogging sites like this one, Stripped And Teased etc. who were showcasing films. But that might be a lazy way to think on my part. I can think of about a dozen films over the past 2 months that I've truly enjoyed watching, and although I tend to voice my praise and congratulations to the filmmakers in person, it would be better to put their name up in lights. Same for us all. That being said, I do appreciate the kind showcases that people have done for me with Sultrina. It's high time I returned the favor.

  13. Personally, I do not think this has anything to do with quality as such. You can ramp up the graphics, turn on shadows and use the best software there is, but at the end of the day if it's a movie of the same guys arse bobbing up and down on his latest conquest x50...there really are only two people that it's going to entertain, and thats the two people in the film.

Clearly people have different motivations for making these movies. Some do it for fame, some because of their ego, some even because it's a fetish to be watched. But for me, the ones who make the best movies are those that strive to capture their imagination on film, to share their passion, and to entertain OTHERS and not just to amuse themselves. Creativity....all for it, repitition I'm not such a huge fan of, and truth be told, when you are posting the fiftieth film of yourself fucking and the only difference is that it is a different girl on a different beach, then you are only amusing yourself.

I will not argue that NM is there for everyone, but it being made into a pay site is clear indication that the flooding has now become a problem. I see a clear distinction in the movies being posted specifically from people attactched to the Pornstars group in Second Life. Some are ''cinema releases'' and others are quite clearly 'home movies'. That is neither a good nor a bad thing, and certainly not something worthy of the hate and bile being spread around Second Life, it is, however, a problem, and one that the owner of NM is quite clearly addressing.
