This statement has appeared on the Naughty Machinima site very recently....
"To help offset the costs of running this site, we will be switching to a usage based system shortly. There is a basic free option, but there will be monthly limits, which can be extended by choosing a payment plan. If you get an expired message you have to choose an option, or wait until the following month. This is the best solution for now and will be fine tuned as we move forward. Thanks for understanding. "
We can only speculate at the allocated share per month on a free account at this point. One things for sure though it is going to change the landscape to some degree with the more prolific film makers among us in mind.
So feel free to leave your comments here on the subject and give your views.

I actually wouldn't mind paying a (reasonable) storage / maintenance fee if: they upped the limit on movie size (200MB is just not that much!). I find that more of an issue than a reasonable monthly fee for storage. It's a great service, and I can appreciate the hard work it takes to keep it running!

ReplyDeleteIt is an amazing site. It's the hub to a whole community in one respect. I hope even without the fund raising aspects of the paying side, the limitations put in place will save bandwidth and mean the site can keep going even as things stand now.
Uploading, and views all suck lots of bandwidth.
I'm wondering though where embedding comes in all this? Will it be seen as saving the site bandwidth and allowed for all as many times as they like? Or will it be seen as a get around for not paying?
I myself was wondering about the embedding issue, and if this will be affected. A tiered payment option is totally fine with me, provided, as Daphne said, they up to the MB limit to at least 500MB. This seems to be relatively spot on with most other "naughty" upload sites such as X-Tube, PornHub, even NaughtyBitch (the listed 100MB upload limit is incorrect). Personally I am more inclined to simply upload somewhere else and embed from now on. My last few attempts at an NM upload were met with plenty a problem.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that may put off the more ambitious film makers is with embedding in mind, is the policy at NM that embedded movies do not get featured.
ReplyDeleteA featured movie is seen as a major achievement within the community, and many people jump through hoops to make their direct upload work, rather than embedding which is at times an easier option. All due to knowing if they embed they lose their chance of being featured.
Maybe though, less movies uploaded, will equal longer in the spotlight for projects, and offset some of the need.
