You see, there are some grown-up games we like to play on Second Life, and to play such games, sometimes we c...okay okay, I do not have to explain what a friggin sex toy is, on the Sexiest Pornstars blog of all places ! Heck, we all have used, worn, interfaced with ( or been ! ) one, at some point, even ! But if you think you know everything about sex toys, think again !
There's always something new to learn when watching videos on the interwebs . More to the point , there's always something surprising in a Mitzy Broadway movie, and this Sex Toy is no exception .
What is not THAT surprising is that there will be a premiere for this movie ! An occasion to celebrate for and with the cast of yet another impressive group effort, we'll start gathering around 7 PM SLT for an in-world screening of the picture. Line up for it !
Actually, no line, there's plenty of room. And then we'll dance the night away when the party officially starts at 8 PM, as per our Official Pornstars party schedule. Oh yes, there definitely will be dancing. And possibly other exciting group activities? Up to you!
So, about this movie: it's only natural to get your first opinion of a movie simply by its title, and "Sex toy" certainly conjures a variety of images and themes I vaguely touched upon in the opening - certainly there is not-too-vaguely touching of openings going on in this movie, from credits to credits. However, one of the possible working titles Mitzy had for the movie was "Sexpionage", and as you peek at this 'review' through all my blah-blah, I am fairly confident that the pictures I am posting give you an idea of that unique vibe. In fact, this movie is all about unique vibes, or at least vibrating devices, and such !
Would you think of the sex toy industry as a cutthroat business? I mean, deepthroat business, mouth-gag business, yes, but...okay, I digress.
The adult toys industry IS an industry...and where's an industry , there's competition and secrets. Like most Mitzy movies, a simple idea or factoid takes an unexpected twist and spin and hits the sweet spot. When you listen to the movie introduction, delivered by Rysan Fall with his patented suavity, you definitely are not going to able to guess where the movie is going.
(oh, FFS! Okay this does not count as a guess)
Sex Toy is not about solipsistic fun nor about dank cellars and slick efficient instruments of modern tech : this movie is a heist with a fun plot that plays with delightful classic situations of the genre. A cast of several characters play their role with gusto and their paths intertwine. Expect two siblings peeping on each other and plenty of toy-swapping! No, it's not set in Alabama , it goes for a way more exotic location: India.
The choice of India as the main location for the movie was also a source of surprise to me. Yes, yes, my first thought was as well "Is Mitzy going Bollywood for this one? ". To a point of course yes: from a director well known for dance interludes, we could NOT imagine NOT having a proper scene with the characters breaking into dancing. It makes for a rather climactic moment. Literally! And showcases some of the fine performers beautifully, which is always one of the best reasons to have dance intermissions in a movie.
At the same time, what intrigued me the most about the exotic location is that Sex Toy is very much an adventure caper. From a direction standpoint, this movie pulls off some rather impressive stunts (literally and figuratively). It is one of the most skillfully planned and executed movies I had the pleasure of being involved in. Without overstating it, it is a bit of an Indy movie, or if you like, it's Romancing the Dildo! There's a distinct sense of wonder and intrigue throughout the plot, in an exotic journey of discovery.
Well, yes, and lots of fucking, too.
Production lasted several weeks and spanned through two different sims rented for the occasion, such was the detail and scope of the set design, built from scratch, with some ingenious customizations. The majority of the cast was involved in the Indian part of the production, and I can attest that such a specific setting can be a nightmare to accessorize for. And yet, everyone was up to the task in a spectacular way . The better part of the sex scenes takes place during a night of celebration at Camel City after some heated bareback riding: expect some truly atmospheric sequences with a real magic of the orient brought to life by memorable looks and a clever mise-en-scene.
Larry Vinaver and Xalted Violet are excellent as you'd expect playing the brothers at the top of the adult toy industry, and Rysan Fall is the wildcard that pops in when you least expect it: which, of course, brings up the presence of voice acting. Simply put, it's a further testament of the quality and love put in production and I'd be remiss if I did not give it a shout-out to, both to the actors like Larry who put an added layer to their performance using their real voice, and to Filthy Penny at large who picked some amazing talents . I mean, I loved my accent in the movie ! Whatever it is supposed to be, it IS so 'me' ! If i were cool, at least.
At the same time, the cast as usual in Mitzy's movies has a lot of chances to shine and effectively brings a lot to the table: there are SO many details to appreciate on screen. Some details can be fully appreciated during a normal viewing, such as the double-duty some of the cast members play - although Anyka must have set a sort of a record here. Others are less apparent - such as the input in set design, translations, art direction: I'll just mention that this is another reason to join in the party and hear some stories from the set and the making of this production.
I have of course my personal favourites when it comes to scenes and pairings, of which the movie offers plenty : I admittedly admire the inspired mosaic of looks put together by the male cast in India, which really made me look forward to seeing them in action (heck, some of the beards of this movie deserve a spin-off movie!), and is a testament to the depth of the talent pool in our community when properly coordinated and cast - and thanks as always to Rachel Avro for her role in this. The kamasutra-inspired lenghty sequence of the movie is a real buffet of hindu delicacies .
To address a bit of an elephant in the room (somehow that is not just a metaphor when I think of this movie): it is my first instinct to play down (or at least not play up!) my own share of screentime in productions, but I have to spend a few words more. I am grateful to Mitzy for the wonderful role in what's without a doubt one of the movies she can be most proud. I believe multiple factors contributed to a truly special experience that is both intimately sensual AND bold and lively. My role allowed me to share with her on screen a special camaraderie chasing each other in a sexy game of Spy vs Spy. (spoiler: she got me ).
On top of all that, and that's where I'd like to gently push away the spotlight and direct (ha!) it towards her, she once more showed me how good of a director and clever of a planner she is, because while I find myself at the dusk of my SL experience (not ruling out that a new dawn will happen eventually, you never know in life) , and my committment to 'acting' and productions is not at the level it used to be at, she hid any flaw in my 'performance', she made every shot we took really count and made every scene with me matter. In more ways than one. Thank you!
Now, let's have the credits roll ...but the real show is only beginning. Enjoy some more screenshots - there's a stupid amount of amazingly good looking sex scenes in this movies, I could easily make a blog post out of every single one of them , and that would leave out so much of the movie's character and flavour. So, I hope to see you at the premiere!
