What's Going On With The Wowmeh Body? : The Story So Far...
![]() |
| Louise Kristan-Fauls 'Wowmeh Body'. By Serenity Kristan-Faulds. |
While reading 'Hamlet Au's' fantastic Blog, 'New World Notes' I read an article on the present 'Wowmeh' situation. I felt it would be of interest to Pornstars Group members. Please visit Hamlet's Blog 'Right Here' to see the original article and read the insightful comments left by his Blog readers.
The Wowmeh body became an over night huge hit on our porn scene with our members. It also saw several designers within our Porn groups begin producing some awesome outfits and accessories for it too. They have also been left frustrated by events.
Thankfully, It looks very much like Wowmeh is on the way back very soon, but if you're wondering "What the hell went on!?" reading below should clear it all up......
If you're not a designer in Second Life, it's hard to imagine the feeling of being completely at the mercy of an anonymous stranger willing to claim your work as their own. It's a story we've heard many times over, usually when it comes to content theft: All your hard work swiped and resold under a string of alts. It's a nightmare for many creators and a constant reality for many more.

But there's a flip side to this familiar problem, which one designer has brought to light in a recent blog post in the wake of the removal of her most popular product.
The WowMeh mesh body experienced a flash of popularity. It seemed like a well-made answer to many Second Life fashion enthusiasts' issues with the default body. It was fitted mesh, allowing for a broader range of body shapes than some of the competition at the time, while wearers could additionally coordinate their other mesh enhancements with it. But as suddenly as it appeared, WowMeh was gone. Removed from the grid due to a DMCA claim filed against creators Baby Ghosn and Bit McMillan.

The "easy" answer to this would be to file a counter-claim, the typical course of action when you believe your work has been removed in error. That counter-claim also delivers your real-life details (or the details of your lawyer if you can afford to file through one) to the original claimant in case they want to pursue further legal action. As Baby points out in her blog post, however, it's not unheard of for people to use DMCA claims to grief/disrupt businesses, and handing over your personal information essentially gift-wrapped to someone who seems to mean you harm isn't an attractive prospect. That's why Baby says she won't be disputing the claims, and will instead be releasing a revised version of the WowMeh mesh body instead.

Of course I can't speak to whether the DMCA claim filed against WowMeh was justified or not. It's always possible that it was, but we just don't know. What we do know, by the admission of the creator, is that the Wowmeh body was created using the standard Second Life body, purchased components, and the designer's own work, and that they'll be removing much of those third-party pieces from their upcoming WowMeh release.
On the one hand it's important that DMCA claims are acted upon and taken seriously in the many cases where content has truly been stolen/used without proper permission. On the other, it's hard not to sympathize with designers who've had this very important tool turned against them. In those cases, it's just another kind of content theft.

HAVE YOU BEEN CHATTED UP BY A FLATTERBOT?
We've seen signs and notices at stores, warning us about approaches by "Bots" programmed to make general conversation with us, flatter us, and then beg for some spare Linden Dollars. Recently i read a interview with the girl who claims to be behind the scam by Blaise Joshua of Every Second Man, and as we like to include the odd article here on Second Life matters outside of porn, just for a change here is a link to the interview. READ IT HERE!
An excerpt...."I make roughly $40,000L per day. [i.e. around USD$160] And consistently for three months. Everybody is exploiting everyone here." This will either make you laugh, cry, disbelieve, or just be plain annoyed!
The sad thing is so many of us have met genuine "Real" people with the personality of a Bot, which probably makes this whole scam work. I think these flatterbots might even be better in bed than some which many of us have encountered!
Blaise told "New World Notes"...
"When setting up the interview, I agreed with Nanyea that I wouldn't publish how I found her," he explains. "However, she spoke to me through bots that were running the scam, showed me bots working on location, and switched between three different bots while talking to me." As for why she did the interview at all: "I think she enjoyed having someone to talk to -- she said as much in the interview. Also, I think there was a genuine desire to get her side of the story out there, after all the abuse she feel she takes because of it. I think it actually bothers her, and she feels she is judged more harshly than she deserves to me. She also clearly has a grudge against SL."

OBAMA WINS SECOND LIFE POLL BY A LAND SLIDE!!!
I always enjoy reading the "New World Notes" Blog often featured on our "Sexiest Magazine". An interesting article today followed up on their survey/poll for the U.S Elections. Where president Obama won a stunning 73% of the vote! The article looks at why Obama is so popular among Second Lifers.
However, i think i know a big part of the answer!
Featuring some time ago on this Blog, Jennnna Jameson's ( Emmanuelle's ) lapdance for the president pic became her #1 Flickr upload. Today it has over 2,600 views! I'm going on record as saying, i turned down the chance of posing and Lap Dancing for Romney like this! I just felt dirty.
Here is an extract from NWN's...
A massive 73% said they preferred President Obama over Romney, who attracted a paltry 13% (which is just a little more than those who chose Neither/Don't Know/Don't Care). Notably, this means Second Life users support Obama more than even the voters of Hawaii, Obama's home state (and mine!), only 71% of whom went for for Obama. (And unsurprisingly, Hawaii is more pro-Obama than any other state -- see screencapture above.)
Why so much support for Obama in Second Life?
The main reason, I think, is that the Second Life user base skews overwhelmingly international, with just about 30% of the userbase based in the US, and most users located in the EU, Brazil, and Japan, countries which all heavily favor Obama. Another less important but likely significant factor: Unlike other online worlds, Second Life users has almost near gender parity (about 40% women, who also tend to be the most active users), and women generally favor Obama over Romney.
Finally, with its emphasis on individual freedom, creativity, non-traditional lifestyles, and acceptance of sexual content, Second Life by its very nature probably attracts people who are more likely to be liberal than not. (Then again, you can just as easily be a gun-toting, rapacious capitalist in Second Life, though in my personal observation, right-leaning SLers tend to be libertarian, not traditional values conservatives.) To be sure, neither Obama or Romney are stereotypical liberal or conservative candidates (I'm still not even sure what Romney actually believes, politically), so it's unwise to infer general political belief simply from preference of candidate. But that would probably make for a good follow-up survey.
